HILDENBOROUGH Athletic overcame the obstacle of playing 75 minutes with 10 men in their Bill Manklow Inter Regional Challenge Cup match with Haart Kent County League Premier Division side Tudor Sports.
The visitors from the top flight were a physical challenge for the hosts, which they met, and their defence had to be strong in repelling the long ball game. Athletic took the lead inside 10 minutes when Steve Ashmore was brought down in the box and Karl Smith dispatched the resulting penalty.
Soon after, Hildenborough had a man sent off and it did not look good for the home side when Tudor Sports equalised, following a good free-kick.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Hildenborough were still playing the better football in the second half and, with 10 minutes to go, they got the winner. A pin-point cross from Ashmore was met at the far post by Smith and he headed into the net.
