Hildenborough AFC League and Cup double champions.
Fleetdown Utd 1- 2 Hildenborough AFC
Hildenborough AFC clinched the kent County division one title on Saturday 5th May with it all coming down to this last game.
In a game that was always going to be a nervous one for Borough knowing a win would guarantee them the title, the game started well with Yeung crossing to Smith who fired over from 6 yards. After this the nerves seemed to creep in and Borough couldn’t get into their stride.
A good move down the left from the home side saw a cross come over and Czanner could only parry the ball in front of the fleetdown striker to put the ball in.
The home side were flying into the challenges and the fleetdown captain received a caution for taking down Spenceley.
Borough got one back before half time, a cross come over and bounced in the box and Karl Smith headed the ball past the home goalie.
Second half saw Fleetdown go down to ten men when again the captain took down Spenceley on the edge of the box.
Borough at this point knew Metrogas had won their game so a win was needed and nothing less. It didn’t seem to be going for Borough when attacking with good chances going wide.
But with 7 minutes left Ottway made a great run down the right, a cross was put in and took a few deflections until ending up at Smiths feet who fired home. Borough held on till the final whistle and the celebrations started. This was a special goal as at the start of last season and in the clubs first game in the Kent County Karl got the clubs first ever Kent County goal and the following season he got the winner for the div 1 title.
Borough have done back to back championships since entering the Kent county league and everyone at the club has paid a part in it. From the players to the managers and the back room staff it was a very special day. Hildenborough only lost 3 games and drew 2 all season. Since the cup final win on good Friday they were 10 points behind leaders Metrogas, but they have won every league game and beaten all the teams in the top four of the table, Borough complete the league and cup double for this season and will look to carry it on.
