HILDENBOROUGH ATHLETIC 4

BELVEDERE 2

Kent County League

WITH players missing, Borough had to make a few changes from the past couple of weeks for this Division 1 game, but, with the strength in depth they have, after 90 minutes they walked away with a well-earned three points to move them into second place, just behind leaders Metrogas.

With the surface on the pitch being wet, the ball was always going to be tough to get down and play and it took Borough 20 minutes to get used to it.

They were a goal down after 10 minutes, when a lack of concentration allowed a through-ball to be played in, and the Belvedere striker made no mistake in rounding Adam Lisney and slotting home.

This gave Borough the wake-up call they needed and they started to get the ball down and show the passing of which they are capable.

John Sinclair and Scott Lock were working hard to break down play and push Borough forward before the equaliser came from good neat football down the right, Adam Davies calmly slotting home.

After 40 minutes, Karl Smith, continuing his fine form, volleyed home from just inside the box.

Again, lack of communication resulted in the ball being played through a small gap, and the slightest of touches from the Belvedere forward put the ball in for 2-2.

Whatever was said at half-time from the Borough management team worked, as the hosts created good chances early on.

After 70 minutes, Borough took the lead with a well-worked goal. Keeping the ball on the left, where Alfie Hall and Luke Mathias were superb all game, some good interchanging led to a cross being whipped in to Sinclair, flying in at the back post, and he volleyed into the bottom corner.

Borough sealed the game with a goal of sheer class. A pin-point cross-field pass from Davies found Smith 20 yards out and without any hesitation he jumped and volleyed with the outside of his boot, over the keeper and in.

Borough showed great spirit to win this game against an organised and strong Belvedere side.

Squad: Adam Lisney, Adam Davies, Alfie Hall (Jack Moore), Luke Mathias, Steve Ashmore (Tom Fountain), Luke Stratford, Darren Yeung, John Sinclair, Dean Spenceley, Karl Smith, Scott Lock. Subs unused: Mike Cramp, John Gilden, Matt Ferguson.
