Boro' played host to Nomads 'B' this week and once again it was a real battle. However, aside from being quite physical for a young side and showing good fitness levels the Nomads side had little to offer apart from a centre midfielder who seemed to be pulling all their strings. Boro' were without doubt the better footballing side but just couldn't make it count. It was infact Nomads who took the lead with a goal that should never of been. The striker recieved the ball whilst standing at least a yard or two offside. The goal stood so it was time to forget it and move on. Once again Boro' were quite strong at the back with the Nomads strikers causing Darren Chandler and Phil Hoare little problem. With John Kerr and Oli Marshall cutting out anything down the flanks it left Nomads to play through the middle. One of their centre men was in great form though and he made Boro' pay on two occassions and both through long range efforts. The first of which in the first half making it 2-0 was finished superbly leaving Ryan Giles in goal little chance. The second (again against the run of play!) came in the second half making it 1-3 and leaving Boro' a steep hill to climb. This just after Craig Kirwan had given Boro' a life-line beating the keeper from close range. Up until the two long range strikes Nomads hadn't caused Boro' many problems and Ryan Giles was having a reasonably boring afternoon! Often Boro' are at their best when they're up against it and this proved the case. Everyone raised their game and although quiet on the field we picked it up a level. James Moon made some changes at half time and they seemed to paying off straight away. One of the players coming on was Craig 'Barn' Kirwan and the difference was apparent within minutes. We really picked up and started to knock the ball about, creating some great chances. The first of which came straight from kick off after we'd won the ball back. Great work down the right and Seb Ichedadene whipped in a fantastic cross which was nearly met by the incoming Boro' strikers. It certainly showed the Nomads that we weren't a team that lays down and gives up and that we were there to fight til the final whistle!! Boro' were on top for the whole of the second half and it was Nomads that looked like they'd given up. We had them moaning at each other yet again and we were certainly the team that wanted it most! with about twenty minutes or so to go Boro' won a free kick around the half way line. Man of the match Darren Chandler floated in a great ball and substitute Craig Kirwan headed home well (although we must be honest, he was lucky to still be on the pitch after his crunching tackle on their best player!!!) Every player started to chase down every ball no matter how hopeless it looked and there was a bit more voice. We came close to equalising on a number of occassions but it seemed like it wasn't going to be our day. Until the 90th minute when another free kick was won just inside our half. Darren Chandler put in another great ball and the Nomads side couldn't deal with it again. Jake Chandler flicked on his header and up stepped Jak Cook to pull it level earning Boro' an important point that keeps us ahead of the Nomads side in the league. Nomads left the pitch looking like they'd lost and once again Boro' had shown the level of fight they have in them and how willing they are to work for each other! A great result!
