Ide Hill Res 3
Hildenborough AFC 3rd 1

Frazier Glascoe (1)

An unfortunate start to the campaign saw the 3rd's lose 3-1 to an Ide Hill (Reserves???) side that had at least 6 or 7 changed faces from last week's thumping where it was us that came out 16-2 victorious!!! Unfortunately it has become evident that their 1st team were infact without a game!!! However, we are not going to dwell on this and why should we when we did infact run most of the game in a hard fought battle only to discover it just wasn't going to be our day!! After a shaky start throughout the team, we finally turned up on around the half hour mark and showed much improvement. It then seemed a shame that we had already gone behind by two goals up to this point. Once we had woken up it seemed as though we could quite easily fight our way back into the game by half time and go from there. Boro' were then hit by yet another shock when this time against the run of play they went down to a third. We could blame the fact we were wrong to perhaps expect an easy three points, the fact we didn't turn up for much of the first half or the fact we seemed to be playing a different side from the week before but we are not about to do either. The second half was very encouraging and it just seemed the ball wouldn't fall for us infront of goal. A frustrating afternoon for all of us, especially Foxy and Frazier who ran their socks off with little reward apart from the one goal from Frazier which was taken well. Sean Ingleson and Man of the Match Deano Spenceley fought all day in the middle with Deano covering every inch of the pitch at some point!! And once the 3rd's had woken up, captain Mark Robertshaw steadied the back four so things were much tighter. Yet again there has to be special mention for Jak Cook who came on out of position and didn't put a foot wrong!!

In summary it was a frustrating and unfortunate start to the season lads and just wasn't our day but there are a lot of things we can bring away with us to work on. We need to get our heads on from the start and expect a tough game whoever we're up against. Once we turned up we played positively and they had little to offer in reply. ( I think they had one shot in the second half which says alot so well done boys!!) Ok, it didn't fall for us infront of their goal but with attacking performances like that in weeks to come Jim and I are positive it will and when it does we have bundles of goals in our squad so opositions will need to watch out!!! We just need to tighten up when we're not in possession boys, then we've got a lot to be optomistic about.
